Special and intensive yoga workshop

This is the first intensive yoga workshop to be organized in Vietnam of the world famous speaker Leslie Kaminoff. He is an internationally recognized yoga expert for more than 4 decades with rich experiences in yoga and breath anatomy. He guided many workshops for many yoga associations, schools and training programs in the US. He also supported in organizing international yoga workshop and actively attended in many conversations and talks on standards and criteria for certifying yoga teachers and yoga therapy experts.

He is very busy with yoga projects. But after one year of patience and enthusiasm from Shivom, he agreed to go to Vietnam to organize yoga workshops.

ON Saturday 08/06/2019

In the morning 9:30 -12:30

Introduction of yoga focusing on breath and clarify locks in yoga

Leslie will introduce the distinctive breath-centered teachings of Krishnamacharya and Desikachar from a historical, scholarly and anatomical perspective while leading participants into a progressively deeper understanding of the vital forces at work in the human breathing mechanism during yoga practice.

Details of breath sequencing, coordination with movement and spinal action are some of the elements that comprise the topic of bandha. Far from being a mystical practice, the good news is the moment we were immediately, implicitly learning bandhas when we first learned to coordinate breath and body movement. From this perspective, deepening our yoga consists of nothing more than uncovering our innate ability to find support and spaciousness through a breath-centered practice.

In the evening 2:00-5:00

Weekend Yoga Workshop Leslie Kaminoff

Healthy Spines: Range of Motion, Support and Breath

Are forward- and back-bending asanas about moving forward and backwards in space or are they about changing the shape of the spine? What role does the breath play in entering into and supporting us these challenging poses? How we answer these fundamental questions will determine our goals and experiences when we practice. Unfortunately, some of the most common alignment cues do not produce evenly distributed spinal movement, resulting in a perpetuation of chronic tightness in the very areas the poses seek to release.

This workshop will provide a solid grounding in details of the anterior and posterior lines of the body from both an anatomical and a yogic perspective. We will practice a variety of breath-based movements and healthy alignment strategies

In the morning 9:30 -12:30 and in the afternoon 2:00-5:00

Re-imagining Alignment

Leslie will promote an experimental, experiential atmosphere of inquiry regarding the teaching of alignment, safety and effective cueing of asana. The morning session begins with an historical and anatomical perspective on the subject and functional definition of alignment. Following that, an exploration of the uniqueness of human structure will lead to the understanding that “asanas don’t have alignment – people have alignment.”

Topics include:

  • Functional principles of alignment
    • Breath-centered, anatomically-based cueing
    • The relationship of bandha to support and movement
    • Why instructions like “tuck your tail,” “lengthen your spine,” “square your hips” may be doing more harm than good, and what kind of language to use instead

The use of gazing (drishti) and imagery to foster increased neuromuscular integration
